Same-Day CEREC Dental Restorations

In 1980, W. Mörmann and M. Brandestini created CEREC (Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics) technology for dental restorations and changed dentistry forever. CEREC technology allows dentists to restore patients’ aesthetic issues in their own office, without the need for a lab.

What is CEREC Used For?

  • Crowns
  • Veneers
  • New fillings
  • Inlays and Onlays
  • Amalgam filling replacements

How Does CEREC Work?

CEREC uses state-of-the-art technology to perform the dental procedures listed above. CEREC uses an intraoral digital camera to get a 3D image impression of your teeth. Based on the images, CEREC’s computer aided design (CAD) software helps dentists design the perfect crown, veneer, or filling for your teeth. The design is then sent to your dentist’s in-office milling machine to be created for you, all in the same visit.

After 20 minutes or so, your color-matched dental restoration will be created and ready to go. Your dentist will then install, polish, and bond your restoration in place. Your teeth are now restored back to their natural look and feel. Thanks to CEREC, your restoration was designed and installed all in one visit!

Why CEREC is Superior

Typically, crowns, veneers, and other restorations take more than one visit to the dentist. You get impressions done and wait for them to be processed at a lab before going back to complete the procedure. With CEREC technology, on the other hand, impressions don’t have to be made and sent off to a lab. Instead, CEREC uses a digital camera to get a 3D impression of your teeth. The images are then processed and a precise restoration is created all in your dentist’s office. CEREC’s same-day restorations save you from the hassle and time commitment of multiple dentist appointments. The whole CEREC process only takes a mere 1-2 hours of your time, and then you’re done!

Another reason why CEREC is superior to other options is that it creates a natural look and feel without using harmful materials. Instead of gold, amalgam, or other metals, CEREC uses biocompatible ceramic materials to produce a safe and effective restoration for you. The ceramic is tailored to match the exact shade of your teeth so you won’t have to be embarrassed by a discolored smile.

CEREC technology is becoming very popular not only because of its convenience, but because of its effectiveness. After 30+ successful years of use and over 28 million restorations placed, CEREC technology is in a league of its own. Ask your dentist if they provide CEREC restorations, or search online for a dental office that does.
